The Slow-Cooked Sentence

Homage to Sendak and an ushering in of the flu

Rachael Conlin Levy
Illustration from “Alligators All Around” by Maurice Sendak, whose book “Chicken Soup with Rice: A book of months” inspired me despite my sinus headache.

In October,
I’ve been host
to coughs,
fevers and
a runny nose.
Soup‘s cured all
but the nasal drip, post.
Sneezing once.
Hacking twice.
Cold season sure ain’t nice.
