Saturday we celebrated the kids’ First Reconciliation with a sinfully delicious chocolate cake topped with gobs of gooey marshmallow frosting.
The cake recipe, originally published in Gourmet magazine, is Epicurious.com’s most popular recipe, receiving more than 1,000 reviews. The frosting recipe, also from Gourmet, was one I had made before with great success.
But, apparently, the devil was in the details. The middle of my cake fell during baking, (perhaps because I didn’t make an altitude adjustment). And my mixture of egg whites, sugar and corn syrup refused to whip itself into a mountain of fluff.
An emergency trip to the store for a jar of marshmallow creme saved the cake, and I don’t think even God would’ve tasted the difference!
mmm…
